How to create “Virtual Machines”?

Login to your cloud dashboard with userid / password provided in an email.

(IMPORTANT: Dashboard uses features from HTML5, please use browser that fully supports HTML5. Some examples are Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera).

dashboard_login

  1. In dashboard, expand “Compute” from left navigation menu.

    dashboard_compute_overview
  2. Select “Images“, and click “Launch” on your preferred operating system (In this tutorial, we are using Windows Server 2008 R2 image).

    dashboard_panel_compute_images_list
  3. Launch instances has five tabs, with “Details“, “Access & Security” and “Networking” being most important.

    dashboard_panel_compute_instance_launch_tabs

    • On “Details” tab, provide instance name, select flavor, select count (if you select more than 1, system will append name with unique ids).

      dashboard_panel_compute_instance_launch_details
    • On “Access & Security” tab, provide your Admin Password (this will become the root password for your Linux virtual machine. This only works for Linux. All Windows based machines are sysprep’d and will prompt for a new password upon boot up).

      dashboard_panel_compute_instance_launch_access
    • On “Networking” tab, click “ + ” on your network preferred network. Do not selectCloud External Network” as that is a shared network.

      dashboard_panel_compute_instance_launch_networking
    • Click “Launch“.
  4. Your dashboard will automatically switch to “Instances” and you can see your instances being build. Based on the “Image” you selected, the amount of time it takes to build an instance will vary. Task column will change from “Scheduling“, “Networking“, “Block Device mapping“, “Spawning“, and then to “Active“..

    dashboard_panel_compute_instance_list
  5. Once the instance Status is “Active“, your virtual machine is ready. Additional tasks for each virtual machine are under “More” menu, next to each instance.

    dashboard_instances_actions_more
  6. Most users will want to see the machine console at this point, click on “More” then “CTRL + Console” to open machine console in a new browser tab/windows.

    dashboard_instances_console_only
  7. Follow the steps specific to your image to further configure you virtual machine (In this example we used a Windows Server 2008 R2 image, image below is Windows SysPrep getting the virtual machine ready for first use).

    dashboard_panel_compute_instance_console_w2k8_sysprep
  8. Congratulations, you now have a virtual machine inside your own virtual private data-center. Repeat to create more machines.

      Muhammad,

VNC console runs on port 6080. Please make sure there are no firewalls in your environment that block outgoing traffic over that port.

    Hi

I’m Getting This Error while creating virtual Machine

Error: Unauthorized. Please try logging in again.

Error: Unable to launch instance named “core-mini”.

    • yellowcircle

      Viki,

Please make sure that you are following the “Getting-Started” guide to create all the required components of virtual datacenter prior to launching virtual machines. Most of the time your problem is caused by the selection on wrong network during instance launch.

      I hope this helps.

You need to set up router and private network. Then connect the instance to the private network you created. It should work then. I made the same mistake 🙂

    • Please make sure that your instance is running. Additionally, console runs on port 6080. Please make sure there are no firewalls in your environment that block traffic over that port.

I have created a new instance but it says ‘No valid host was found.’ ‘Error 500’
I tried windows server 2012 R2, 8.1, Ubuntu Desktop, Ubuntu Server. But I get the same error every time. Please help me.

    • We had some issues with one of the infrastructure systems that cause the error your received. Please try again, and you should be able to launch instances without any issues.

  • sandesh

i have successfully created the virtual machine but it’s not starting getting this type of error Error: You are not allowed to soft reboot instance: sandesh

    • We had some issues with one of the infrastructure systems that cause the error your received. Please try again, and you should be able to reset / reboot instances now.

  • Do we have the login details for instances (For Example : I created Ubuntu / CentOS Instance -> Accessing via console) -> It prompts me for root id & password.. I would like to test some “Assign Volume, format, mount volume, copy test data -> use volume snapshot” to revert to point in time date..

    • As documented in step 3 above, you can set your own root password during instance launch wizard. Just switch over to “Security & Access” tab and specify your password. This only applies to Linux based instances.

  • I can not create Instances in my panel, it show “Error can not create “jonin” please logging try agian”

  • I can not create Instances in my panel, it show “Error can not create “jonin” please logging try agian”

  • Many users have mentioned this “Error: Unauthorized. Please try logging in again”. This error occurs when users try to connect their virtual machine directly to “Cloud-Network-External”. Please make sure you follow this video guide, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-Au6U_50Uk, to create the necessary components prior to launching an instance. Components required include Router, Private Network, Setting the Router Gateway, and Creating a internal interface on that router. Step 3.c in this guide specifically states that “Do not connect to Cloud-Network-External”.

I have created the network infrastructure and the VM without problems, can ping trough IP and DNS. My VMs are based on Ubuntu 16 images, but I am having problems when using apt install packages or even apt update.

Are there limitations? even apt install tasksel is giving me the feedback unable to locate package tasksel
